Categories
The sponsor will assist the students in identifying the most appropriate category for their entry. Sponsors who need help categorizing an entry are encouraged to contact the contest administrators. We retain the right to re-categorize entries if needed, but projects will not be disqualified for incorrect categorization.  Explanations of the categories follow:

There are four separate grade classifications in each category - Grades K-3,  4-6,  7-8  and  9-12.  Please check the age category on the entry form carefully so that student-producers will be competing against other producers approximately their own age. Entries that are the work of more than one student should be entered in the category of the oldest member of the group.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

  • Entries should be submitted as photographic essays in a slideshow format with audio.
  • A photographic essay involves the organization of a number of original photographs on a single theme. It gives a deeper, fuller, more rounded, more intense view of the subject than any single photograph could.
  • All photographs must be the original work of the student photographer(s) and may be color or black and white as appropriate to convey your message
  • Digital photographs may have no manipulation other than minor exposure correction.   (Significantly manipulated images should be entered under Computer Generated Art)
  • The length of the entry must be between 1 and 2 minutes.
  • Entries should be submitted in .mov format.
  • Possible programs include, but are not limited to, Apple iPhoto.

COMPUTER GENERATED ART

  • Entries should be submitted in a slideshow format with audio
  • Entries must include a number of original computer generated images
  • All images must be the original work of the student(s).
  • The length of the entry must be between 1 and 2 minutes.
  • Entries should be submitted in .mov format.
  • Possible programs include, but are not limited to, Adobe Fireworks or Photo Shop.

PRINT AUTHORING PROGRAM

  • Entries for this category include computer-generated projects that communicate a central idea and are completely original in text and artistic content.
  • School yearbooks and newspapers have their own competition via journalism departments.  Please do not submit those types of productions to this contest.
  • The length of the entry must be between 1 and 4 pages.
  • Possible programs include, but are not limited to, Apple Pages or Comic Life, Microsoft Publisher or Adobe InDesign

PRESENTATION AUTHORING PROGRAM

  • Entries for this category include computer-generated projects that communicate a central idea using a commercial presentation-authoring program.
  • They must be automatically progressing and include narration.
  • The length of the entry must be between 1 and 2 minutes.
  • Possible programs include, but are not limited to, Apple Keynote or Microsoft Power Point.
     

ENHANCED PODCASTS or VIDEO

  • Entries in this category may include still images and audio and/or video to communicate a central idea.
  • A computer program may be used for titles, credits, overlays, and editing.
  • The length of the entry must be between 1 and 2 minutes.
  • Entries should be submitted in .mov format.
  • Possible programs include, but are not limited to, Audacity, Moviemaker, Apple Garageband,,  iMovie or Final Cut Pro.
