Criteria for Scoring

Semi-Finalist Projects will be identified by each school and submitted to the district to be considered for designation as a Finalist Project. 

A  panel of experts, selected by Flagler County Schools Instructional Technology Team, will name the top entries (the “Finalists”) based on the following rubrics covering content, organization and technical quality:

 

A. Content and Organization

Creativity / Originality
 
Provides fresh, meaningful & interesting insights into the subject of the production.
 
Project is fairly standard in its presentation of the subject. Project does not reflect a true understanding of the subject.
Emotional Impact / Attitude

(Most projects should have a professional serious attitude throughout.  Humor is great, but just being silly, isn’t).
 

Heightens viewer attention and interest. Has a strong effect on human emotions or feelings. Maintains viewer attention and interest, however, it has only a moderate effect on the viewers’ emotions. Very little emotional impact on the viewer.
Organization
 
Shows a clear and obvious planning with consistent format & design.  All sources are properly cited. Some planning is evident, however, format & design are not consistent.  Sources are not properly cited.
 
Project was not well planned and format & design are not consistent.  Sources are not cited.
Continuity / Structure
 
Shows that the information or story is paced and developed in a way that keeps viewers interested and helps them understand the meaning.
 
The information or story is not presented in a way that keeps viewers interest.  The producers’ message is somewhat confusing. The information or story is presented in a random manner.  The producers’ message is not clear.
Essential Question / Purpose
 
Information is clear, appropriate and correct.  Project achieves its stated purpose.
 
Information is conflicting.  Project does not clearly support its stated purpose. Information is incorrect.  Project does not support its stated purpose.

 B: Technical Quality

Audio
(Projects requiring sound)
 
Background music and sound effects (if present) balance with speaking voices, and are appropriate to content. Speaking voices are clear and easy to understand. Background music and sound effects overpower the speaking voices, and are not aligned to the content. Background music and sound effects are difficult to hear.
Vocal Quality
(Projects requiring narration)
The vocal performers speak clearly, and at an appropriate speed. They are lively and enthusiastic. The vocal performers speak clearly and at a good pace, but have little expression.
 
The vocal performers appear to be unsure of the words in the script and have little expression.
 
Editing / Transitions
 
Scene changes are smooth and appropriately placed. Cuts/transitions used are appropriate and do not distract the audience. Images (if included) are appropriate, easily understood, and add useful information. Scene changes are smooth and appropriately placed. Cuts/transitions used are a bit excessive and distracting to the audience.
 
Scene changes are abrupt and transitions are too flashy and very distracting to the audience.
Timing / Flow / Synchronization The narration and visuals move at a suitable pace. Length is right for the amount of information (not to short not too long). Animated objects move smoothly. The narration and visuals move too quickly.  Length is too short for the amount of information presented.

Composition / Clarity / Colors
 
The elements within a scene (the main subject, supporting subjects, fore- ground and background) are arranged in a pleasing way. The images, graphics, and fonts are clear. The color palette and the contrasts between dark and light are appropriate for the desired mood. The elements within a scene are arranged in a random manner. The images, graphics, and fonts are not visually pleasing. The color palette and the lack of contrast between dark and light make the fonts difficult to read.
 
The elements within a scene are distracting to the eye. The images, graphics, and fonts are disorganized and do not result in a cohesive composition.
