You are invited to participate in the Flagler Schools
ECO (Environmental Conservation Outreach) Committee
In the school year 2005-06 this committee was created as a result of students from several of our schools and Ms. Valeria Sanson, a teacher at Wadsworth Elementary, coming before our school board requesting that they unite our school district and our county in efforts to address environmental concerns. This group of concerned citizens had a vision of how Flagler County can become a model example of a school system and a community working together to protect and preserve our environment. As a result of this presentation at the time school board member Ms. Evie Shellenberger became the school board liaison and Ms. Sanson would chair the committee. Requests were sent out to all our school centers for each to send a representative to sit on the committee. The goal is for this committee to be a communication link for sharing ideas, resources and goals with the school board, all students and our community. Since that time, Ms. Shellenberger and Ms. Sanson have stepped down and continue to support this committee. In their place, Andy Dance, school board member, and Trish Reonas, teacher at Flagler Palm Coast High School’s Linear Park Service Learning Program have taken the helm.
Students created the following mission statement:
Spreading the word to improve and protect the environment by preserving, cleaning, teaching, and informing.
We continue to extend an invitation to join us in uniting the efforts of the county toward this critical and educationally based endeavor. Meetings are currently held four times during the school year at the Linear Park classroom. If you would like to help, be a guest speaker, or share information/resources on environmental issues, please contact us.
