"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."- Helen Keller

For as long as I can remember, American public education has been in the midst of change.  Education for children with special needs has gained the right for all children to achieve through intense and vigilant advocacy.  The Individual with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA) has incorporated and increased provisions for educating all children with disabilites as a mandate.  As partners in Exceptional Student Education (ESE), the school district does not accomplish its mission, but looks to all stakeholders to work collaboratively for the good of our children and our community.  We share responsibilities and strive for a positive relationship in making special education specific to individual needs.  Our system is not without challenges as we attempt to meet the diverse growing needs of all students while managing a decrease in financial support for ESE.  However, we shall do all that is within our power to support building assets in our students and investing wisely to increase positive, constructive experiences so that all children mature to their fullest potential.  The ESE Department strives to communicate beliefs that encourage and empower.  We affirm and appreciate opportunities for positive interaction through communication, respect from all and mutual decision making, as we address early intervention, academic development and social responsibility in our students.  I encourage all interested partners to join us in this important role of educating exceptional children.  Visit your child's school and become involved to make a difference.  The ESE Department is here to assist you.  Feel free to contact my office.
