Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher with the Flagler County School District.  Substitute teaching is an excellent way to learn about the schools while allowing principals, teachers, and staff to get to know you.

The following is required in order to become a substitute:

Step 1 - Submit an Online Application                                         

The Reference section must include three (3) references with phone numbers.  One may be a personal reference but may not be a family member

Step 2 - Submit Official Transcripts                                        

Transcripts must indicate that an Associates degree or higher has been awarded.  If your degree was earned outside the United States, you must provide an evaluation of your degree.  Transcripts should be mailed to FCSD Human Resources, 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Bunnell, FL 32110.

Step 3 - Required Reading & Pre-Employment Documents

Review the required reading material for Substitutes then print and complete the pre-employment documents for Substitutes.

Step 4 - Fingerprint & Background Clearance                             

Come to the FCSD Human Resources office at 1769 East Moody Blvd with the following:  completed Fingerprint Authorization Form, completed pre-employment documents, copy of your driver's license and social security card, and fingerprinting fee.

Fingerprinting may be paid by credit card (see Fingerprint Authorization Form for details) or money order payable to Fingerprinting Services.  The current fee for fingerprinting is $56.25.

NOTE:  PLEASE CALL THE HR OFFICE BEFORE PAYING FOR FINGERPRINTS TO ENSURE WE ARE PROCESSING SUBS.

Step 5 - Board Approval

Upon completion Steps 1-4, receipt of fingerprint and background clearance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, reference checks, and verificiation of credentials, the applicant's name will be submitted to the agenda for Board approval.  Note:  This can take up to two weeks or more if documentation is incomplete or we are unable to make contact with references.

Upon Board approval, the applicant will be contacted by the Subfinder Coordinator and issued a pin that will allow the applicant to register for substitute teaching jobs.

Step 6 - Obtain ID Badge & Assessment Test

Upon receipt of your pin number, you will need to come to the FCSD Human Resources office to obtain an ID badge and pick up a Substitute Teacher Handbook and Sub Instructor eTraining CD.

All sub teachers are required to take the Sub Instructor Online Assessment TestAll sub teachers have one year from the date they are approved by the Board to pass the exam.  An acceptable passing score is 85% or higher

Step 7 - Prepare to Receive Jobs

Record your name on the Subfinder phone system by calling (386) 206-4648.  You will need a pin number to do so.  If you do not record your name, you will not be called for available substitute positions.
