Substitute Teaching

Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher with the Flagler County School District. Substitute teaching is an excellent way to learn about the schools while allowing principals, teachers and staff to get to know you. The following is required in order to become a substitute:
 
Required: 60 College Credits or an Associate’s Degree or higher, prefer prior
teaching experience or having worked with children in a classroom setting.

 

Step 1 - Submit an Online Application
You must create an application on FastTrack to apply for a posted position. If there are no substitute positions posted and you would like to create an application in order to be prepared for future instructional postings, select General Instructional & Admin Application.
 
Step 2 - Submit Official Transcripts                                    
An Official Transcript must be submitted to the Human Resources Department. Transcripts must indicate that 60 semester hours of course work have been earned or an Associate’s Degree or higher has been awarded.  If your degree was earned outside the United States, you must provide an evaluation of your degree.  Transcripts can be brought in or mailed to Flagler County School District, Human Resources, 1769 E. Moody Blvd (Bldg. 2), Bunnell, FL 32110
 
Step 3 - Attendance of a Mandatory Substitute Orientation
It is mandatory that you attend the substitute orientation.  The mandatory orientation is required for ALL selected applicants, regardless of teaching/substitute experience.  The substitute training is an in-person training that educates individuals on classroom management, ESE/IEPs/504 plans, positive behavioral support/bullying, emergency situations and more. Once an orientation date has been scheduled selected applicants will be notified by email of the time, date, and location.   Failure to attend this training will place your application on an inactive status. 
 
Step 4 - Fingerprint & Background Clearance                    
Upon completing the mandatory substitute training you will be required to complete fingerprinting and drug screening. Fingerprinting is done in the Human Resources office. The cost for fingerprinting is $50.00. Payment may be made by credit card or money order. The Drug screening fee is $35.00.  An authorization form will be given along with a hiring packet.
 
Step 5 - New Hire Paperwork
Review the Required Reading for Substitutes then print and complete the New Hire Packet for Substitutes, Temporaries, As Needed & Coaches.  New hire paperwork must be turned into the Human Resources office.  Please be sure to have the following documentation with you:
  • Current driver's license or passport 
  • Social security card (if you do not have your social security card, you can apply for one at a Social Security Office) 
  • A "VOIDED" check or direct deposit letter from your bank which includes your banks routing number and your account number (pay checks are only through direct deposit).
Step 6 - Approval
Upon completion of Steps 1-5 with receipt of fingerprint and background clearance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, drug screening, reference checks, and verification of credentials (including transcripts), your name will be submitted to the district's automated substitute absent management system "Frontline Technologies - AESOP". You will be notified by email to come to the Human Resources office to receive you assigned Login credentials.
 
Step 7 - Obtain ID Badge
Upon receipt of your login credentials and PIN number, you will be issued a Substitute ID badge.
