Gerardo Sanchez-Amigo was named Flagler Schools Plant Services Employee of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year. Back then, he said it was a great honor. But that moment has been eclipsed for the man everyone simply calls “Sanchez.”

On Friday, August 18th, Sanchez became a naturalized US citizen following a short ceremony in Jacksonville. “It was the best day of my life,” he tells us. “I’ve been waiting for this moment since 1992.”
Sanchez says he applied to come to the United States in 1992 while living in his native Cuba. It took him sixteen years to get that approval and he and his family came to Florida. (His wife became a naturalized citizen this past June).

For the past three years, Sanchez has been a part of the Flagler Schools family, working in Plant Services. He’s got an infectious smile and David Freeman, Plant Services Director says “Sanchez is an outstanding employee. His work ethic cannot be matched. He is an asset to our department and to this district.”
The Flagler Schools family congratulates Sanchez and we thank him for all he does to make sure our facilities are ready for our students every day.
