School Board And County Commission Seeking Redistricting Input
Submitted on Monday August 22nd 2011 4:14:13 PM

The Flagler County Commission and the School Board will be seeking public input on three proposed redistricting plans for its members.
To allow for maximum participation, public hearings will be conducted by both entities in September and a joint meeting to adopt the final redistricting plan is scheduled for Sept. 21. The Flagler County School Board will conduct a public hearing during its regular meeting in the Government Services Building on September 6. The redistricting plans will be up for discussion at 6:30 p.m. at that meeting. On September 7 the Flagler County Commission will also seek public input during its regular meeting at 9:30 a.m.
This process is not related to State House, State Senate or Congressional districts. Those districts will be handled by the Florida legislature.
Both the County and the School Board share the same five residential districts. Elected officials are required to reside in their district, thereby ensuring a geographic cross representation of the county, but all of them are elected by a county wide vote.
At a joint meeting of the Flagler County Commission and the Flagler County School Board on August 16, six proposed redistricting plans were reduced to three and ranked by the two boards.
Maps of the three districts being proposed are available on the Flagler County website at www.flaglercounty.org  in the “Quick Links” section of the home page.
