Shop Safety

  • Housekeeping is a must keep the shop clean and neat.
  • No fueling during thunder and lightning storms.
  • All vendors and visitors must register at front office.
  • Always clean up any spills as soon as possible.
  • Always wear proper safety equipment for each job.
  • Use proper eye and face protection for job assigned.
  • Use proper hand protection for job assigned.
  • Always read instruction before operating any equipment.
  • Use proper lifting technique.
  • Use mechanical lifting equipment for heavy loads.
  • Use safety vests when working along side the roadway.
  • No smoking on school board property.
  • Check all electrical equipment for damage before using.
  • Advise supervisor of any hazardous.
  • Make sure all containers are marked and labeled properly.
  • Store hazardous chemicals in fire proof cabinets when not in use.
  • Check ladders before using for damage.
  • Never stand on the top two rung of a ladder.
  • Use proper safety equipment when working with batteries.
  • Always disconnect batteries when working on electrical items.
  • Wear seat belts at all times in district vehicles.
  • Fill shop vehicles when fuel gauge reads ½ a tank or below.
  • Use proper safety equipment when using torch.
  • Use proper safety equipment when using electric welder.
  • Use wheel chocks to secure vehicle if a set of wheels are on floor.
  • Always use jack stands when vehicles are raised with a jack.
  • Follow safety procedure while doing tire work.
  • Dispose of waste products properly.
  • Be familiar with exits, fire extinguisher locations, electrical boxes.
  • If you don’t know how to operate something always ask or read manual.
  • Put a red tag on any tool/equipment that is broken.
  • Report any accident the same day.
