In order to celebrate Black History Month, SGA is putting up a Story board in the student Hub. The BHM Story Board will consist of stories (current or past) about minority experiences, struggles or accomplishments. This page is dedicated to these unique stories.

In 2008 Arthur L. Jones became the first African American Chief of Police for the City of Bunnell. He joined the Bunnell police force in February of that year, and after only nine months in his position, was well accepted by the Bunnell community in his newly appointed position. His previous experience included over twenty years of service in Fort Lauderdale.

In this photo he is interviewing with Mr. Brazell and Ms. Beamesderfer for the FPC-produced documentary, Project Griot: Both Sides, a documentary about desegregation in Flagler County.

Elsie Chapelle was one of the first African-American teachers to be transferred from Carver High School, an all African-American school, to Bunnell High School, during the desegregation movement in Flagler County. She faced a lot of adversity during this time, but always remained a well-respected and admired teacher at both schools. She is credited with establishing the first integrated Teachers Union in Flagler County.
