Celebrate Literacy WeekThe Florida Department of Education has designated January 24th–28th as Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! This week is designed to raise awareness about the importance of reading, and to inspire Florida's students and families to make reading part of their daily routines.

The 2022 Celebrate Literacy Week theme is Launch Into Literacy, Blast Off Into New Worlds! With this theme in mind, Flagler Schools will be reading books with a variety of settings to support the New Worlds Reading Initiative program released this fall. 

Flagler Schools will celebrate literacy with fun daily activities from January 24th–28th. This is a sampling of activities planned at our elementary, middle, and high schools:

Elementary
Launch Into Literacy
  • Favorite book cover door decorating contest
  • Book trivia
  • Bedtime stories each night on Zoom
  • Rocket Rhymes - Students write rhyming words on a rocket and post around the school for all to read
  • Create your own bookmark
  • A Day in the Yard - Bring a beach towel and read outside
  • Name that book cover contest
  • Sherlock Holmes - Choose a book based on the first sentence
  • Book character parade

  • Literature quote of the day
  • Book giveaway
  • Florida Teen Reads book tasting
  • Teacher Signs - What am I reading?
  • SGA members read to elementary school students
  • Author visits
  • Blackout poetry - Give new meaning to old pages
  • Student volunteers read to ESE students
  • Comic Book Cove grand opening
