Substitute Teaching

Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher and /or substitute paraprofessional with the Flagler County School District! Substituting is an excellent way to learn about the schools while allowing principals, teachers and staff to get to know you.

Requirements:

Substitute Paraprofessional: 60+ college credits or AA degree or passing the Paraprofessional test. Substitute Teacher: Associates degree or higher. FL Teacher Certification (if applicable).

Prefer candidates with prior teaching experience or having worked with children in a classroom setting

To become a substitute teacher or substitute paraprofessional with Flagler County Schools:

Submit an Online Application - You must apply to the Substitute Teacher or Substitute Paraprofessional job posting on Flagler School’s “Work With Us” web page. Please be sure that the references you include on your application are professional references: supervisors and co-workers. If you are an intern or recent graduate, an Intern Coordinator/Supervisor or Professor are acceptable. Family Members and friends are not acceptable.

Substitute Teacher Online Training Course – You will be contacted by Kim Hunt once your application has been reviewed and you are selected. An email with instructions to complete the Online Substitute Training Course will be sent to you.

Official Transcripts – After being selected and passing the Substitute Online Training Course your Official transcripts must be submitted to the Human Resources Department. Transcripts must indicate that 60 semester hours of completed coursework have been earned to become a substitute paraprofessional (or an AA degree or evidence of having passed a paraprofessional test). An Associate’s degree or higher is required to become a substitute teacher. If your degree was earned outside of the United States, you must provide an evaluation of your degree. Transcripts can be handed in or mailed to Flagler County School District, Human Resources Department, 1769 E. Moody Blvd. (Bldg. 2) Bunnell, FL 32110.

Fingerprint and Background Screening - Once passing the substitute teacher online training course, you will receive a 2nd email to schedule an appointment for Background screening which includes:
Fingerprinting – The fee is $51.25 registration and payment will be done in the Human Resources Department. Payment can be made with credit/debit card or money order.

Drug Screening – The fee is $35.00 an authorization drug screening form will also be given to you at this time. A Substitute New Hire Packet will be provided to you. This is to be completed and includes the Required Reading for substitutes. Bring the listed documents with you on the day of your scheduled appointment.

Current Driver’s License or Passport
Original Social Security Card (If you don’t have a SS card you can apply for one at the Social Security Administration office).
Voided check for Direct Deposit – A “voided” check or direct deposit letter from your bank to include your routing and account number. (Paychecks are only through direct deposit).
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ALL DOCUMENTS AT THE TIME OF YOUR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT YOUR DATE WILL BE RESCHEDULED.

Approval - Once Steps 1 – 4 have been completed and receipt of fingerprint and drug screening clearance have been received by HR, you will receive a 3rd email informing you that you are cleared to work and to come in to Human Resources to obtain your Substitute ID Badge and AESOP login credentials.
